The first picture is the cemetery next to Gero park. Inside of it are men who fought in the Revolutionary war. I choose this because it helps us remember those who have died in the line of duty. New Jersey related because NJ was one of the first 13 colonies and took a major part in the Revolutionary war. This is also why I took the third picture. The second picture is a memorial to those who died on 9/11 located next to train station where all those ambulances are. This pictures is related to NJ because it shows how close we are to the city and how important it is to our town structure and where so many parents work. The effect of 9/11 was so great to our state considering our location.

  1. All the time, many of us pass by the cemetery at Gero Park. I have always known that the men buried there were veterans from the Revolutionary war, but I have never taken the time to actually see the site. There are so many historical things in our town that most people do not know about, I think that this is one of those places.

  4. I pass this cemetery all the time as well. I actually never knew that people who fought in the Revolutionary War were buried there. I feel like it is in a bit of an unfortunate location. Because it is on a corner where there is traffic very few people will actually be able to visit the cemetery. The location is probably one of the reasons why not many people know of its historical importance. The cemetery's location is also consistent with Hartshorn's idea of building around what already exists. The location seems to be a result of paved roads being built around the original cemetery.

  5. I pass this cemetery almost everyday. I never knew who was buried there or that it had anything to do with the Revolutionary War. I also agree that it is in an awkward location; I think more people would pay attention to the cemetery and the history if it were in a more popular area in town. The 9/11 memorial is perfectly placed as many people who were affected by the tragedy had loved ones who commuted into the city for work. I have noticed that before as it has had a huge impact on our town and community. Great pictures!

  6. The cemetery is a landmark in our town that everyone drives by several times a day. It is a sight I have always noticed and asked questions about but never really got that much information on. I feel that because of the fast paced traffic, a staple of New Jersey drivers, and the small size of the cemetery it does not receive as much attention as it could. People are more likely to take interest in a larger cemetery that forces them to hold their breath for longer. However it is important to give recognition to this spot and the soldiers buried there.

  7. I always drive by this cemetery but never stop and realize how important it is. Also, i never realized who was buried here. It is always great to know that that men who fought hard in the Revolutionary War are buried right near us in New Jersey. Also, I think it is very nice we have a memorial about 9/11. It is good we will never forget the men who passed away on 9/11.

  8. I once got out of my car once to look at this cemetery but got in trouble for it so i never got a good look of it. Whenever I am at a red light I always stare at it, trying to read the names. I never knew that these men fought during the Revolutionary War. I agree that it is in an awkward location but that area must be significant. I agree with Sam that this is a historical location people do not know much about and the town should show more awareness to it.

  9. I pass by this cemetery all the time and I never knew that it was for those who fought in the Revolutionary War. Its so important to remember those who lost their lives. Its also so important to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11 because it happened so close to here not so long ago. It is sad to see that no one has recognized the purpose of the cemetery and memorial because the people who lost their lives not only share a purpose for our state but our country.

  10. One time when I drove by that cemetery next to Gero, I looked at some of the tombstones. Some of the stones were readable and I remember seeing a baby's tombstone. I believe the baby was only a few months old when it died. It is also cool to know that men who fought in the Revolutionary War are buried so close to our homes.

  11. Up until today, I never really knew the cemetary next to gero park. It is in my opinion that the town should make the cemetary more publically known. A large sign or some other indicator would be appropriate to let the people of our town know about how important the cemetary really is. Also, I find it great that there is a 9/11 memorial as I know many people were effected in our town by the tragedy.

  12. I pass this cemetery everyday and have never got a good look at the tomb stones. I agree though, that it is good to remember and respect those who fight for us and have fought for us. New Jersey would not be the state that we know today if it were not for these men. Also, I am extremely thankful that the effects of 9/11 did not cause more damage in our area. Even though I did not live here at the time, I consider Millburn my home and I am grateful that after 9/11 we are still standing strong.

  13. I have passed by this cemetery many times and I have never really stopped to look at it or recognize what it is there for. I also agree that it is a good thing to have, to remember and respect those who died fighting for our country. I think the second picture is also very powerful, because that day had an effect on many families, even some around our area. I think that is a very respectful thing to have; to show some gratitude towards those lost and those who knew them.

  14. I've also passed this cemetery many times, but it wasn't until a couple years ago that I actually wanted to go myself and actually look at it and read the names on the tomb stones. I've never really had to opportunity to pay my respects but I'll definitely have to go soon. I love the second and last picture. The last one in particular, recognizing the few brave men who fought against many, basically going to their deaths. It's really cool that the revolutionary war was fought right here in our backyards. This is definitely a good place to put a memorial for those poor souls who lost their lives on September 11th. There's also a really powerful memorial at Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange that's definitely worth checking out.

  15. I'm surprised myself because I see how many people passed by this cemetery and I have never even see it. It's interesting how many new things you learn and see everyday. I think Nick Rocha is right we should remember the lives that were taken in 9/11. Also, people are fighting for country and we should at least pay some respect to them and this is a great way for people to pay respects to them. One day for an adventure I will take a look at this cemetery in Gero Park.

  16. I live right around the corner from the cemetery. I have walked and driven by it, but I have never read all of the memorial signs posted around it. It is amazing how a revolutionary war cemetery from the 1700's exists right in our town. It is amazing to think that the revolutionary war took place in our backyards over 200 years ago.

  17. I have probably driven past this cemetery a thousand times a week! When I was younger, I thought that it was some creepy guys house who's entire family was buried right in the back yard, but recently I started to read the signs and discovered what a really was, a memorial for those who lost their lives defending General Greene's flank in the revolutionary war. And this is also what I was going to use as a post, but I guess someone beat me to it.

  18. This cemetery gets little recognition and I am happy someone finally made it public. I remember having a project a couple of years ago where I had to go rub chalk on a grave stone to find out the information of the person who had died. People drive past those graves everyday and do not realize the importance of the grave yard. History exist everywhere in our town. As years go by, the past is always forgotten and its nice to see someone who has actually stopped and showed respect.

  19. I too have passed this cemetery many times, but never really got out of my car to actually take a good look at it. It is really cool to have a cemetery right near our homes that dates back to the Revolutionary War, and the fact that it is still in very good condition and respected around our town.
