South Orange, New Jersey

This is a fairly small diner in South Orange. It is a cute little place called Village Diner. I thought it would be perfect to capture this photo there, because the owner is Jersey proud and is a native to the state. Of course, they have a huge menu with many different "comfort food" options. The diner had more of a laid back style in terms of how it was set up.
The waiters, manager, and owner were all very friendly and were more then willing to help out with taking a couple photos. I would go back there for the experience and they really good comfort food. That was definitely a good place to have lunch on a Sunday afternoon.

  1. I always go to South Orange but I've never seen this diner before. It is good to know that every town has a nice little diner for kids of all ages and parents to go to. I'm sure this diner has such great food. Next time I go to South Orange I'll be sure to go to this diner.

  2. I never go to South Orange for anything but temple but it is good to know that they have a nice diner. Each town should have a diner where everyone can come together. It would not be a New Jersey diner with people sitting on the counter having a nice conversation. I will definitely go try this diner sometime soon.

  3. I pass by this diner all the time but have never gone in. I definitely want to go check it out now. Diners are the perfect place for people to come together because the food really is comfort food and there is always something for everyone on the menu. I agree with Nikki that every town should have a diner because they are the perfect spot for a get together.

  4. I've never personally seen or heard about this diner before, but my dad grew up in South Orange, so I asked him if he has ever heard of this diner. My dad said that he used to go there all the time and that they had really good food. I'm not a huge diner fan, but I would give this place a try because even my dad went here when he was younger!

  5. The place looks pretty good. I am very loyal the other diners, but if I'm in South Orange I'll definitely give it a try. I think this diner adds to the New Jersey identity as the good service and small size are classic characteristics of a good diner.

  6. I have never been here, but now I want to go. It looks like a charming little place with the classic New Jersey Diner look and feel. The bar, the menu, and the colors of the place remind me of the Millburn Diner.

  7. Definitely looks like a nice place, but can't really tell from the picture if it was like the other diners we studied in class build in the Art Deco style with a lot of the aluminum/chrome. I'd like to know what food you guys got haha. But it looks pretty big and looks like you guys sat at the bar...good move, I like that.

  9. OK, I think I should go out more because there are so many places I've never been to and I think all these nice places is a definite yes to visit. As I said before I love Diners and go to new ones so this is a place I'd like to visit. I like how Malia said the owner, waiter and manager were very friendly because I don't like rude people. I mean who does right? I also loved how she said there is a lot of choices to chose on the menu. As well as the owner I am also just so proud to be from New Jersey!

  10. I have never been a diner in South Orange but if I have a chance I will definitely go. The place looks nice and big. But like what Nick said before, it's really hard to see its style.

  11. Looking at the picture it looks like it is a typical New Jersey style diner. I usually only go to a couple of restaurants and diners, but I think that it is time to venture out and visit a new diner. Judging by the size of the menu, it looks like there is plenty to choose from.

  12. Even though I can't tell a lot about it from the pictures, it looks like a genuine Jersey Diner. Honestly, what is a diner without friendly waiter's and a huge menu? It's comforting to know that the people opening restaurants like these are native New Jerseyans, because they will have a better comprehension of the Diner Culture. I'll definitely stop by for some, off-menu Disco fries, if I'm ever nearby

  13. Although I have visited South Orange a few times, I never saw this diner before. I'll make sure to go check it out when I can, and see all the things on the menu and all of it's "comfort foods." I'm sure they have great staff who (from the smiles on the picture) put a smile on their customer's face and really make them feel at home. As should all diners in New Jersey, but i always hate that one waitress that doesnt show any enthusiasm towards anything. Nevertheless i will search out this diner and eat it's delicious comfort foods and leave with a very happy stomach ache.

  14. Ugh I love this diner! I used to go there all the time when I was younger! As I can remember the owner is definitely Jersey proud. The menu stays true to its nature with comfort food, and relates back to the conversation of the classic diner scene. My family has been going there for years and I am happy it is being noticed.

  15. Don't think I have ever been to that diner either, and I used to live in South Orange. From what I can see in the photo, it looks like you guys are sitting at the counter, presumably where there are a few waitresses behind the counter getting coffee to the customers and picking up food from the kitchen. So it's nice to see that this small diner has one of the essential structures that are found in diners. It also looks like they have a huge menu, which is another trait of diners that was discussed during class. I actually love that diners have a large variety of food (even though most of the time it is best to just stick to breakfast food).
